I was at the supply house yesterday when I ran into 2 reps from ipDatatel
who provide Broadband Data monitoring
They have an interesting line of products to monitor and control any ones alarm system over the Internet VS cellular communication which can get expensive if your using large amounts of data.
There products use the Zigbee Interface to allow for control of many different items in the home

They have products that allow the monitoring of Serial output RS232 etc.
which I am looking into for some customers who want to monitor process levels etc. and this is definitely a company you want to keep your eye on.
