That $3 million Dollar home I was working in I found another dangerous issue .
The home owner put a metal vent thru the 2 hour rated wall of the garage and basement and installed a fan in garage to allow warm air from house into the garage .
This is never to be done ever if the fan stops Carbon Monoxide and other fumes from a car being worked on or just sitting there could easily back into the basement poisoning those dwelling down there at the time .
To make matters worse since the envelope of the 2 hour rated fire wall is breached should a fire break out in the garage flames and heat could easily make there way into the basement thru the vent pipe.
That's why when there are those limited times vents are allowed to penetrate a fire wall they must have automatic closing dampers to prevent this .
Needless to say the new owner is pissed because once again the home inspector missed it totaly.
